JTG Cruise: Mykonos, Kusadasi, Patmos

The Journey to Greece Family atop the Louis Majesty Cruise Ship

July 11

Our group congregated at the UINDY campus, early in the morning, with luggage and suitcases in hand. The Journey family took a chartered bus to the cruise terminal in Piraeus and boarded the Louis Majesty cruise ship. Upon going through security and checking into our cabins, we enjoyed a five-hour trip to the island of Mykonos. Students enjoyed the wonderful view and amenities of the ship.

Once we landed in Mykonos, students took a scenic walk to the area of the island known as Little Venice. After taking our group picture beside the iconic windmills of Mykonos, we explored the island. The Journey family explored the island and enjoyed dinner at many of the wonderful tavernas.
Following our stay in Mykonos, students returned to our ship as it set sail for an overnight trip to Kusadasi, Turkey.

Early in the morning the Journey family landed in Kusadasi, Turkey. In Turkey, students had the opportunity to visit Ancient Ephesus and the House of the Virgin Mary. The stay was also an opportunity for students to shop and get deals at the local bazaar.

After our adventures in Kusadasi, students returned to the Majesty Cruise ship and set sail for the island of Patmos. For lunch, students enjoyed a buffet, which featured a taco bar in honor of Taco Tuesday. The Journey family lounged around the pool and enjoyed entertainment including a watermelon cutting competition.

In the afternoon, we arrived at the island of Patmos. Once on the island, students had the chance to visit the Monastery of St. John, museum, and the historic Grotto where he wrote the Book of Revelations. Patmos also featured wonderful beach areas, restaurants, and shops in its town square. At sunset, we boarded our Majesty cruise and set sail for Rhodes.

Upon boarding the boat, students ate dinner prior to the start of Greek Night. The “Greek Party” featured live Greek music, performances, and a poolside dance floor for us to dance. Because we had a group of very talented and experienced Greek dancers, the Journey family was asked on stage to show how to correctly perform the dances. Many of the cruise passengers praised our group on our ability to Greek dance and put on a fun and entertaining show. At the conclusion of the festivities, students relaxed and prepared for a full day at Rhodes.
