Changing of the Evzone Guard, Session 2 Arrival, Welcome Reception

July 9th

For session 1 students, this was the last free day in Athens. The Journey family did a variety of activities; some students shopped for souvenirs, others visited relatives in the greater Athens area, and many enjoyed a wonderful day at the beach. Our group was also looking forward to the upcoming cruise, which was less than 48 hours away. In the evening, students enjoyed each other’s parea and a relaxing evening.

July 10th

At approximately 9AM, students from session 2 safely arrived in Athens. Concurrently, members of the session 1 Journey family were taking in the weekly Regimental Changing of the Evzone Guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier outside of the Parliament Building.

Later in the morning, the new arrivals arrived at UINDY Athens and moved into their apartments. Once students moved in, the entire Journey Family assembled at the UINDY Athens and students from both sessions introduced themselves to each other. Dr. Dimitriou and UINDY staff led an orientation and introduced the new students to their home for the next two weeks.

After orientation and registering for classes, the Journey family relaxed for a bit and prepared for a welcome reception hosted by the local AHEPA HJ1 Chapter. Students made the short walk to the UINDY Athens Cultural Center and enjoyed a rooftop reception under the Acropolis. Their was ample food, which included; souvlaki, gyro, salad, pita, and spanakopita. Program director, Dr. Jim Dimitriou and Associate Vice Chancellor of UINDY Athens, Dr. Peter Wilkins made introductory remarks to the students before taking a group photo under the light of the Acropolis.

As the sunset, students returned to their apartments and packed their belongings for their cruise, which departs the next day.
