Welcome to the 2011 Journey to Greece Blog

2010 Journey to Greece Students in front of the Temple of Poseidon

Yiassas,

Welcome to the 2011 Journey to Greece Blog made possible by Hellenext’s Next Generation Initiative. My name is Michael Savvas and as the Next Generation Correspondent, I look forward to providing daily entries and multimedia to document our great summer. Weekly E-Bulletins will also be made available. This blog will be a forum to follow the wonderful experiences of the students and will have many important announcements and information.

AHEPA’s Journey to Greece Program is entering its sixth year, under the directorship of Dr. Jim Dimitriou. Entering this summer, the JTG has 347 alumni from 63 universities in the United States and Canada.  This year the program has made numerous additions.

Additions Include:
  • A Greek Folk Dance Class taught at the world famous Dora Stratou Folk Dance Theater.
  • Students will make a difference and serve as volunteers at the Special Olympics World Summer Games, taking place in Athens.
  • The JTG has also joined forces with the American Hellenic Institute, who is graciously sponsoring a class on US-Greek Foreign Relations.

An extension trip to Constantinople will also be offered, which will culminate in a visit to His All Holiness Bartholomew II in Constantinople. A full list of events, excursions, and program details can be seen here .

I am anticipating another wonderful summer and can’t wait to meet everyone. If you have any comments, questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at michael.savvas@gmail.com. JTG program director, Dr. Jim Dimitriou, can also be reached at jfdplato@aol.com
